Alberto Ghione

Research Engineer, PhD
Alberto Ghione obtained a double master degree in Energy and Nuclear Engineering from Politecnico di Torino (Italy) and the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm (Sweden). Then, he joined Chalmers University of Technology in Göteborg (Sweden) to do a Ph.D. on the developpement of thermal-hydraulic correlations and statistical methodologies for the analysis of the Jules Horowitz Reactor (JHR). The Ph.D. work was carried out at the thermal-hydraulic division of CEA Grenoble (France), where the code CATHARE was historically developed. After obtaining his Ph.D. degree in Thermo and Fluid Mechanics and a short working experience at Westinghouse Sweden, he arrived at CEA Saclay in July 2017 to work as research-engineer in the thermal-hydraulic division. Since then, he has been working on the developpment of physical correlations, validation and quantification of uncertainties for the code CATHARE. The main applications are water-cooled reactors, in particular research reactors (e.g., JHR) and French PWRs. Since 2023, he is the technical leader of the project for the developpment of new thermal-hydraulic methods for Pressurized Thermal Shock (PTS). In the period 2022-2025, he was the main coordinator of the OECD-NEA ATRIUM international project on the benchmark and development of inverse uncertainty quantification methodologies, which involved more than 20 instititutions worldwide. Until now, he supervised more than 20 students (master and Ph.D.), wrote more than 10 journal articles and attended more than 20 international conferences. Moreover, Alberto is actively involved in several non-profit professional organisations. In particular, he is co-founder and vice-president of the Society of Italian Nuclear Professionals in France (SPIN).
